How We Identified a Fake Chrome Hearts Destroyer Belt and Cemetery Buckle
This past week, a customer brought in what appeared to be an extremely rare Chrome Hearts Destroyer Belt along with a Chrome Hearts Cemetery Buckle.
At first glance, both pieces had presence. The belt looked rare, the buckle looked convincing, and neither piece was something most people would immediately question. But once we started reviewing the construction, markings, and small details, both pieces raised concerns.
The Chrome Hearts Destroyer Belt
On the Destroyer Belt, several construction details did not line up with authentic examples.
The holes on the backside of the belt were too small. The size tag on the inside of the belt was also positioned too close to the snap buttons. The overall thickness of the leather also did not feel consistent with what we expect from an authentic Chrome Hearts Destroyer Belt.
With Chrome Hearts leather, the details matter. Hole size, size number placement, leather thickness, and overall construction all need to make sense together.
The Chrome Hearts Cemetery Buckle
The Cemetery Buckle was a much stronger fake.
This was the type of piece that could fool a lot of people. The general look was close, but the back markings were where the concerns became clear.
The lettering on the back did not match what we expect from authentic Chrome Hearts examples. On real pieces, the letters are not always perfectly uniform in a straight line; there is a certain character and stagger to the stamping. On this buckle, the markings felt incorrect.
The .925 and 2003 markings also raised concerns when compared against authentic references.
Why We Cross-Check High-Risk Pieces
When a piece is rare, expensive, or heavily counterfeited, we do not rely on one detail alone. We inspect the item ourselves, compare against known authentic examples, and when needed, cross-check with trusted people in the Chrome Hearts community.
For the Destroyer Belt, we reviewed the details with trusted industry peers including Luke’s NYC, Origins NYC, Starchive.LA, Sneakerbratz, and 4Gseller.
For the Cemetery Buckle, we had already flagged inconsistencies and submitted it through Save The Chrome for an additional layer of verification. Their review confirmed our concerns.
Authentication Is About Process
Chrome Hearts is one of the most counterfeited luxury brands in the world. Some fakes are obvious. Others are extremely close.
A piece can have the right general shape, the right weight, and the right first impression, but still be wrong once the details are inspected properly.
That is why authentication should never be rushed. Photos, weight, markings, leather quality, hardware placement, proportions, and construction all matter.
At AVNTGRDNY, every Chrome Hearts piece is carefully reviewed before we buy, sell, trade, or consign it.
